<\/p>\nNachdem ich gerade so ausf\u00fchrlich \u00fcber ein ballonfahrendes Haus berichtet habe, m\u00f6chte ich euch gerne das hier zeigen. Entstanden ist die Karte schon vor einer ganzen Weile als ich mit meinem Englischkurs \u201eSixty Lights\u201c von Gail Jones gelesen habe. Das Buch erz\u00e4hlt die Geschichte einer jungen Fotografin in Australien, England und Indien vor etwa 100 Jahren. Ich kann den Roman nur bedingt als Lekt\u00fcre empfehlen: obwohl in der Geschichte eigentlich alles \u201estimmt\u201c, hat sie uns alle nicht wirklich packen k\u00f6nnen. Die intensiven Bildbeschreibungen (Lucy f\u00fchrt Buch \u00fcber nicht-aufgenommene-Bilder) waren f\u00fcr mich aber extrem inspirierend, so dass eine kleine Serie entstanden ist \u2013 f\u00fcr mich bisher eine einmalige Sache.<\/p>\n
Dieses Bild hier bezieht sich auf eine in Indien angesiedelte Version des \u201efliegenden Holl\u00e4nders\u201c, die Lucy von ihrer Mutter erz\u00e4hlt wird. Die Geschichte (ich hoffe, ich gebe sie einigerma\u00dfen korrekt wieder) hat mit der Oper nicht wirklich viel zu tun: ihr fliegender Holl\u00e4nder liebt eine in Indien lebende blasse Engl\u00e4nderin, er fliegt in seiner Gondel \u00fcber das Land, immer auf der Suche nach seiner Liebsten. Sie schickt ihm, an Ballons gebunden, bunte B\u00e4nder mit Nachrichten in den Himmel. Nat\u00fcrlich finden sie nie zueinander.<\/p>\n
Das gr\u00fcne Band und die Worte \u201eI Adore You\u201c spielen im Buch noch eine andere Rolle, aber das ist nicht so spannend und w\u00fcrde jetzt auch zu weit f\u00fchren.<\/p>\n

Just having given an extensive account of a journey in a balloonriding house (the article below is about the latest Pixar-movie \u201eUp\u201c) I would like to show you this piece here. I made this card quite a while ago when reading \u201eSixty Lights\u201c by Gail Jones with my english class. The book is about a young female photographer living in Australia, England an India about 100 years ago. I cannot unconditionally recommend the novel as a read: although the story is very well constructed the whole thing just wouldn\u2019t really \u201eget\u201c us. But the intense description of pictures (Lucy keeps a diary of \u201ephotographs not taken\u201c) were extremely inspiring to me and so I produced a small series of cards \u2013 a one off for me so far.<\/p>\n
This picture here relates to a version of the \u201eFlying Dutchman\u201c that is placed in India and that Lucy\u2019s mother tells her daughter at bedtime. This story (I hope I can reproduce it correctly) does not have an awfull lot to do with the opera: this flying dutchman is in love with a pale englishwoman living in India. He travels the indian skies, constantly in search of his beloved. She sends him love-messages on colourful ribbons attached to balloons. Of course they never get together.<\/p>\n
The green ribbon an the words \u201eI Adore You\u201c also play another role throughout the book, but that isn\u2019t terribly exciting and would be a bit of a stretch right now.<\/p>\n
