Es geht um die Besetzung der Kanalinsel Guernsey im zweiten Weltkrieg. Eigentlich schwere Kost, aber in Form zahlloser Briefe von so liebenswerten (ok, vielleicht mitunter ein bisschen zu liebenswert) Charakteren erz\u00e4hlt, dass das Lesen viel zu schnell geht. Vom Nachkochen des namensgebenden Kartoffelschalenkuchens r\u00e4t die Autorin allerdings dringend ab. The key subject is the german occupation of the channel-island Guernsey during world-war II. Not an easy story to tell but it is done through an exchange of letters of so likeable (well, maybe at times a little too likeable) characters that reading time flew by far too fast.
